RPM Pīwakawaka 50 Years of Flight
Fifty years ago, flying disc sports in Australia had a heartbeat. It pulsed out of a home office in Caulfield, Victoria, where two full-time Frisbee professionals were making the improbable sound perfectly sensible. And in that office, a homeless artist named Dik Browne picked up his pens, drew a kangaroo mid-flight, and accidentally created one of the most beloved logos in Australian disc sport history.
Then Dik left. So did the petty cash tin.
The Roobee stayed. It graced membership cards, magazines, t-shirts, and Frisbees throughout the '80s as the face of the Australian Frisbee Association, before fading quietly into history.
As part of this year's 50 Years of Flight celebrations, the Roobee has been reimagined for a new era by Perth artist and disc golfer Carl Bellesini. The result is on this disc.
The Pīwakawaka itself is one of RPM's most reliable midranges. Straight off the shelf with a touch of extra glide, it holds a line and flies further than you'd expect. Whether you're picking it up for the stamp or the flight, it earns its spot in the bag either way.
Available in Cosmic and Atomic plastic. Limited run.

Pīwakawaka is the Māori name for this energetic bird native to New Zealand, also called the Fantail. Known for its friendly ‘cheet cheet’ call and energetic flying antics, the aptly named fantail is one of the most common and widely distributed native birds on the New Zealand mainland.
The fantail is one of the few native bird species in New Zealand that has been able to adapt to an environment greatly altered by humans. Originally a bird of open native forests and scrub, it is now also found in exotic plantation forests, in orchards and in gardens. At times, fantails may appear far from any large stands of shrubs or trees, and it has an altitudinal range that extends from sea level to the snow line.
