Disc golf is not only accessible and addictive but also one of the fastest-growing sports globally. With its simple rules and engaging gameplay, it's no wonder that disc golf is capturing the hearts of players around the world.
The Basic Rules of Disc Golf
Disc golf combines fun with skill, aiming to complete the course in the fewest throws possible. Here are the essential rules to get you started:
-
Starting the Game:
- Begin from the teeing area. Ensure you throw from behind the front edge of the teeing area.
-
Playing the Shot:
- Subsequent shots are taken from the spot where the previous throw landed, known as the "lie". If your disc lands in a tree or bush, the lie is the spot on the ground directly below.
-
Throwing and Putting:
- You can take a run-up and follow through but must release the disc before stepping past the lie.
- A putt is a throw from within 10 meters (32.8 feet) of the target. You must not step past your lie until the disc has come to rest.
-
Completing the Hole:
- The hole is completed when the disc comes to rest in the basket or chains. If the disc is on top of the target, the hole is not completed.
-
Out-of-Bounds (OB) Shots:
- If a shot goes out-of-bounds, play from the last in-bounds location with a 1-stroke penalty or rethrow with a 1-stroke penalty.
